چکیده

A major obstacle toward a quantitative verification, by comparison to experiment, of the theory of the excitations of the fractional quantum Hall effect has been the lack of a proper understanding of disorder. We circumvent this problem by studying the neutral magneto-roton excitations, whose energy is expected to be largely insensitive to disorder. The calculated energies of the roton at 1/3, 2/5 and 3/7 fillings of the lowest Landau level are in good agreement with those measured experimentally.

On the Magneto-roton Gap and the Laughlin State Stability

It is argued that the Girvin, MacDonald and Platzman (GMP) evaluation of the magneto-roton spectrum, in spite of probably being a sensible estimate of the excitation spectrum around the real FQHE ground state, is not implying the variational stability of the Laughlin state. The suplementary corrections needed to produce a variational calculation around the ν = 1/3 Laughlin state are evaluated a...

The Quantum Hall Effect of Field Induced Spin Density Wave Phases: the Physics of the Ultra Quantum Crystal

The Quantum Hall Effect of Field Induced Spin Density Waves is accounted for within a weak coupling theory which assumes that in the relevant low temperature part of the phase diagram the quasi one dimensional conductor is well decribed by Fermi liquid theory. Recent experimental results show that sign inversion of the Hall plateaux takes place all the way down from the instability line of the ...

Topological excitation in the Fractional Quantum Hall system

Two kinds of topological excitations, vortices and skyrmions, are studied in the frame of Ginzburg-Landau theory. We obtain the rigorous relation between the topological excitation and the order parameters in the fractional quantum Hall systems. We also discuss the evolution of the vortices in fractional quantum Hall systems. PACS numbers: 73.40.Hm; 02.40.-k; 12.93.Dc Typeset using REVTEX ∗Anth...

Application of Fermi-hypernetted-chain theory to composite-fermion quantum Hall states

The Fermi-hypernetted-chain ~FHNC! theory and the effective hypernetted-chain method are applied to study the composite-fermion ~CF! states of the fractional quantum Hall effect. Using this theory we compute, in the thermodynamic limit, the correlation energy, radial distribution function, and static structure factor for all unprojected CF wave functions. The unprojected excitation gaps for n51...

1 Oscillator strengths of dark charged excitons in the fractional quantum Hall regime

By direct absorption spectroscopy and comparison to photoluminescence (PL), we investigate negatively charged excitons in dilute two-dimensional electron systems at temperatures down to T = 40 mK in the regime of the fractional quantum Hall effect. At very low temperatures, for filling factor ν < 1/3, an additional excitation appears in the PL spectrum, between the well-known singlet and triple...
